Hamilton Bohannon is one of disco’s greatest and most prolific producers. His distinctive production style of shuffling grooves and heavy rhythms is evident in today’s track, off his 1975 album, “Dance Your Ass Off”.
A Baia classic, “Zulu” is an chugging instrumental landing somewhere between funk and disco. Syncopated rhythms produce a fat groove that builds throughout the entire song. Perfect as is, no edit required.->BUY

Thanks to all who have supported for a great first year. Extra thanks goto all the contributors, blogs that linked to us and people who left a comment.
As you can see, the site got a facelift. I’ll be rolling out some new features throughout the next week and cover those as they happen.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, been working on a few things for GC’s 1st birthday tomorrow. Today’s select is by the highly underrated Edwin Birdsong, an organist/keyboard player known back in the day for his experimental funk and disco. In addition to his own productions, he produced 3 albums for Roy Ayers and even co-wrote one of his classics, “Running Away“.
WARNING: “She’s Wrapped Too Tight” is a spacey funk/disco tune that is likely to invoke spontaneous fits of strutting and macking. ->BUY

Never underestimate the power of of an album cut. Case in point, this lil gem from the multi-faceted King Britt project, Sylk 130. I’ve always recognized him as the dj for “should’ve made more albums” hip-hop group, Digable Planets and especially for his house music productions.
Britt’s versitility shines on “The Beauty of Machines”, an electro cut off his 2nd album, “Re-Members Only”. Minimalesque beats with maximal atmospherics and plenty of vocoder-just the way I like it.->BUY

Voyage was one of the better disco bands to come out of Europe and were huge in clubs on both sides of the Atlantic. Probably best known today by one of thier last hits, “I Love You Dancer”, made famous by djs like Harvey and The Idjut Boys.
“Point Zero” is an afrobeat monster off of Voyage’s excellent first album. Thanks goto to Caltrop for this one. ->BUY
